The Women’s Sport Leadership Academy (WSLA) is dedicated to developing tomorrow’s leaders of sport.
WSLA 2017 is now confirmed and will take place in The Dome, home to the University of Chichester’s Business School, from June 11th-16th 2017.
The Anita White Foundation and Females Achieving Brilliance, with the support of the University of Chichester, have hosted three successful WSLA’s thus far. WSLA is aimed at women in middle management aspiring to move up to become senior managers/directors. In 2014, 36 women from fourteen countries gathered for the one-week residential programme of leadership development at the University. In 2015, 40 women from eighteen countries participated and in 2016, 32 women from fourteen countries attended.
Organisations that have nominated and/or sponsored women leaders from the UK to attend WSLA include: Sport England, Sport Wales, Sport Scotland, Sport Northern Ireland, the English Cricket Board, the Football Association, the Youth Sport Trust, StreetGames, the Professional Golfers’ Association, the British Heart Foundation, the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust, the Sport and Recreation Alliance, British Fencing, English Athletics, Basketball Scotland, Scottish Cycling, the Scottish Football Association, the Exercise Movement and Dance Partnership, the Rugby Football League, Welsh Cycling, Welsh Rowing, Sports Leaders UK and regional sport organisations and county councils.
Internationally, we have seen participants from sport federations such as netball (Australia, Malawi and South Africa), cricket (Ireland, Samoa, Zimbabwe and the International Cricket Council) and rowing (Angola, Argentina, Belarus, Japan, Nigeria and Uzbekistan). We have also welcomed participants from the Trinidad and Tobago Weightlifting Federation and Pacific Games Limited as well as women from various sport for development organisations and national sports ministries/councils worldwide.
WSLA has been a great success due in no small part to the mix of women who participated, so we are hoping to get an equally strong and varied group of applicants for 2017. The closing date for receipt of applications is November 30th.
