PRINCIPLES

Working Principles

Sport Coaching Europe plays a leading role in adapting and implementing the policies of ICCE at European level taking full account of the needs of European countries and federations working at the European level. The organisation produces reports, recommendations and guidelines on best practice from a European perspective for consideration by member states, the ICCE and international and national sports bodies, organisations, federations, coaches’ associations and agencies. Sport Coaching Europe believes that subsidiarity should govern its work and that it will be for member states and their appropriate coaching agencies, international federation at the European level and sporting organisations to consider, adopt, match, or adapt the advice and guidelines it provides.

STRUCTURE

The Council has a two-tiered structure comprising:

The Council

Membership of the Council is open to all European based agencies who are members of ICCE and who are involved in training, qualification, employment, deployment, regulation and representation of coaches such as national lead agencies in coaching, international federations at the European level, educational institutions involved in coaching, coaches associations and others. 

The Executive Board

The Executive Board will meet at least twice a year and will comprise of ten members elected by the Council. Elections to the Executive Board will be held every four years. European Board members of the ICCE will have a permanent invitation to the Executive Board meetings.

The Officers 

The Officers will be: Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Secretary. The Chairman or Vice Chairman will hold the position of ICCE Vice President for Europe. The election of the officers will be held every four years in line with the electoral cycle of ICCE so that the nomination of ICCE Vice President for Europe will be made at the ICCE General Assembly.

The ECC Executive Board – roles

The Executive will be responsible for the promotion of the mission and working principles of ECC, working in the context of the wider objectives of the ICCE.

The roles within the Executive Board will be as follows:

Chairman

  • Convene meetings of the Executive Board
  • Establish meeting agendas
  • Chair meetings of the Executive Board
  • Chair meetings of the Council
  • Act in the capacity of European Vice President of ICCE if the role is not fulfilled by the Vice Chairman

Vice Chairman

  • Oversee the financial aspects of the work of the Council
  • Support and deputise for the Chairman as required
  • Act in the capacity of European Vice President of the International Council for Coaching Excellence (ICCE) if the role is not fulfilled by the Chairman

Secretary

  • Oversees membership aspects of the work of the Council
  • Is in charge of the administration of Council and Executive business in cooperation with the ICCE Global Coaching Office
  • Liaise with the Boards of ICCE and ENSSEE on designated issues,
  • Liaise with the Board of ICCE on designated issues, including financial and membership matters

Executive Board members

  • Attend Executive and Council meetings
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the policies of ECC
  • Represent the views and interests of the members of the Council, including national agencies and international federations
  • Undertake roles as assigned by the Executive Board

RELATIONSHIPS

Relationship with European Network of Sport Science, Education and Employment (ENSSEE)

ECC serves as the designated expert group for sport coaching of ENSSEE, based on the MOU signed between ICCE and ENSSEE.

Relationship with EC Sport Unit

ECC has been officially recognised by the EC Sport Unit.  The ECC has been invited to be a permanent observer of the Expert Group on Human Resource Development in Sport (XG HR) and of the Expert Group Good Governance in Sport (XG GG).  ECC is part of the Structured Dialogue in Sport and as such it is always invited to the European Sport Forums.

Relationship with other European sport organisations

Beside ENSSEE, the ECC established a working relationship with European Health and Fitness Association (EHFA), EU Athletes, UNI Europa and European Observatoire of Sport and Employment (EOSE) and other organisations as appropriate.
