The ICCE is involved in a new project funded by the European Commission’s Lifelong Learning Programme.

This project is aimed at national governing bodies, sports clubs and training institutions in charge of coaches, referees, managers and sport specific language teachers to give them access to a TLES curriculum  It is also aimed at players and athletes for whom English is necessary, in order to communicate with other players and coaches, to master the environment during the training courses and the competitions abroad, in particular for the high-level sports persons who are the ambassadors of their country during international competitions.

English is the most used language in the sports world and it is widely used during competitions, technical meetings, refereeing, press conferences and other related activities. The project creates a tool which will permit to sportspersons – directors, coaches, team managers, athletes, judges, referees, students, spectators – who already have a basic understanding of the language a way to improve in this domain.

The finished product will be a multimedia e-learning tool to improve Technical English in Sport that will have a strict link to sport life, practices and competition. The purpose of the project is to set up a methodology in TLES (in the fields of Handball and Athletics) which can be adapted to all the partner countries. Furthermore, the project also aims at the adaptation and harmonisation of the previous products of PARTES and TESS projects obtained in the sports of Table Tennis, Basketball and Volleyball through the translation of the guides into native languages of the promoting country.

The applicant/coordinator of the project is Gazi Üniversitesi (Ankara, Turkey) and two ICCE members are among the partners: INSEP France and Hungarian Coaching Association.
