More than 400 children, coaches and basketball educators came together in Comoros for the 2026 African Mini Basketball Convention, celebrating the role of grassroots basketball in youth development across Africa.

Organised by FIBA Africa and the FIBA Foundation, the four-day event featured coaching clinics, educational workshops and fun on-court activities designed to introduce children to basketball while equipping coaches with modern teaching methods.

The convention focused on the core values of Mini Basketball, promoting teamwork, inclusion, respect and confidence alongside fundamental basketball skills. Coaches shared best practices and gained practical knowledge to strengthen youth programmes in their own communities.

Hosting the event marked an important milestone for Comoros, showcasing the country’s growing commitment to basketball development and providing a platform for collaboration among coaches and federations from across the continent.

By investing in young players and coach education, the African Mini Basketball Convention continues to support FIBA’s vision of growing the game through accessible, community-based programmes that inspire the next generation both on and off the court.
