June 12 – 15, 2014, the world unites in Helsinki, Finland to explore intersections of gender and sport. You’re warmly welcome to join the 6th IWG World Conference on Women and Sport, to be organized under the overall theme “Lead the Change – Be the Change”.
The conference is the biggest sports seminar in Finland in years, as they are expecting 500 – 700 participants from all over the world: athletes, coaches, scholars, sports leaders and grassroots activists. Looking through the lenses of theory, policy, and practice we will challenge the status quo, fostering discussion and debate, enhancing our own toolboxes, becoming better networked, and inspiring change.
There will be three sessions which will focus on closing the gender gap in elite coaching to develop a balanced and diverse workforce:

The International Council for Coaching Excellence has committed to develop a call to action for a collaborative approach to tackle this issue and will explain the next steps in working with key organisations globally to improve the opportunities and experiences women have in coaching and bring about change in this area.
In the first session there will be a report card from London 2012 to show the percentage of women coaches by continent, country and sport and we will engage with the participants to gather further statistics regarding the lack of women in elite coaching, and determine how a report card could be used to monitor progress at the International Federation and National levels. In addition the session will be used to identify outstanding women coaches across the world who can be potential women role models.
In the second workshop there will be showcase examples of research and good practice to and present case studies from around the world and show how challenges have been overcome.
The final part is about gaining input from delegates on the strategies and activities global agencies and organisations can use to increase the number of women in elite coaching. We will develop a ‘call to action’ gaining individual commitment from the delegates for continuing engagement and collaboration and identify volunteers to run pilot projects.
