Over 20 universities from around the world came together during the ICCE’s Global Coach Conference 2019 in Japan to discuss the proposed degree endorsement process following the publication of the International Coaching Degree Standards published in 2016.
The standards were developed back in 2016 following a 6-month consultation period. They aimed to support higher education institutions that wished to develop new or refine existing coaching bachelor degrees. Following publication of the standards and the very positive feedback, a growing number of universities enquired about whether ICCE endorsement of their degree based on the standards was possible.
As a result, ICCE created a working group tasked with the development of a draft endorsement process. This group was led by Dr Andy Abraham (Leeds Beckett University, UK), Dr Kristen Dieffenbach (West Virginia University, USA). Dr Steven Rynne (University of Queensland, Australia), Dr Andrea Woodburn (University of Laval, Canada), Dr Masamitsu Ito (Nippon Sport Science University) and Dr Sergio Lara-Bercial (Leeds Beckett University, UK).
The group presented the proposed endorsement process to over 20 interested universities from across the world in Tokyo during the 12th ICCE Global Coach Conference last week. This included a presentation by LaTrobe University’s Maris Lidums and Clare MacMahon (Australia) explaining how they have used the standards to design a brand new coaching degree. Feedback on the proposed protocol was very encouraging and the working group will now circulate a final version to the interest group and commence work on a series of pilots to finalise the process over the next 6 to 12 months.
